Hi, I’m Pete. I’m a Wedding Photographer based in Derbyshire on the edge of the Peak District, where I live with my wife Catherine, daughter Abigail, and loveable labrador Freddie.
When not photographing weddings I love to see new places and meet new people, and to relax I can be found with my family walking Freddie in the countryside.
I wrote a post about Why I love to Document Weddings, which helps explain my approach to wedding photography.
I’ve photographed hundreds of weddings of all shapes and sizes, in all sorts of venues, and with all sorts of people. The more I photograph weddings the more I’m convinced of one simple truth; It is the people that make weddings. Whether that’s two people, or four hundred people, it’s the connections, the relationships, and the shared moments between those people that makes weddings so special.
So my approach is simple; to work tirelessly to capture how those connections and emotions felt to the people that were there.
One of my favourite quotes about photography is by David Alan Harvey who said “Don’t shoot what it looks like. Shoot what it feels like.”, and it’s a quote that I live by on a wedding day. When your children, grand children, or the friends your yet to make look at your wedding photographs in years to come, I want them to be immersed in them, to feel them and to understand how the people in those photographs felt about each other.
Wedding photography to me should not just be about how something looked visually. Anyone with a decent phone can take a photograph that shows you what you look like on your wedding day, but great photographs will bring back the emotions of the day in years to come.
If you feel the same way, and value real moments over staged group shots, then please do get in touch, I’d love to hear more about your plans.
In 2018 I set myself the challenge of documenting a full year of my life in 1 second videos from each day. I post the results each month on Instagram, if you want to take a look you can find them here – https://www.instagram.com/petehendersonphoto/
